Truth Be Told: Voter Suppression
Correcting toxic disinformation, debunking lies and empowering critical thinking
An in-depth Demos study of 10 states with known voter suppression issues found that while Ohio scored high on data accessibility and transparency, it scored the lowest in terms of voter suppression practices.
“On the lowest end, Ohio scored just 24% for removal practices since at nearly every turn, the state makes it hard for voters to stay on the registration rolls, and the totality of Ohio’s removal practices — from purging for inactivity to lack of notice to voters removed for alleged felony conviction or adjudication of mental incapacity, to a lack of process for voters to contest their removal, to expansive permissions to challenge a voter’s eligibility — make it likely that eligible voters will be improperly purged.” (Demos, p. 10)
Why isn’t anyone talking about voter suppression, especially in Ohio?

BLUF: Check Your Voter Registration Now. DO NOT Wait Until Election Day
Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF): Little armies of vigilantes are showing up at secretary of state offices and boards of election challenging the registrations of legitimate voters, especially targeting lower income and Black and minority neighborhoods. Who’s behind it? Many believe it’s white supremacist groups including the KKK.
“The Klan has gone from white sheets to spreadsheets,” Greg Palast says on the Krystal Kyle and Friends on the KKK’s active involvement in suppressing Black votes.
🫵🏼 If you landed on this page, welcome to the resistance. You’re about to learn about voter suppression. Spread the word. Tell everyone you know. Let’s make America anti-racist FOR REAL.
Check Your Voter Registration NOW
Do NOT wait until election day to check your voter registration. Make it a habit to check your eligibility:
When you renew your driver’s license.
On your birthday.
At least 4 times a year (seriously)
Before voter registration deadlines.
Any time you change your address.
Do NOT assume that just because you successfully voted in the previous election that your registration will be good.
How to check your voter registration
Go to your local board of elections

The Truth About Voter Suppression
We published our first mini zine in July of 2025 to help set straight the many lies told by the Trump regime. You can read about it here, along with a brief history of the “airborne leaflet propaganda” tactic that inspired our mini zines:
The current version of our mini zine was inspired by episode 214 of the Krystal Kyle & Friends podcast featuring Greg Palast. You can find it on Apple Podcasts and Substack; Palast’s interview starts about 31 minutes in. You can also read Palast’s essay on his findings here.
🗳️ From Suppression to Power: Why Voting Access Must Be a Priority Year-Round
While pundits fill headlines with poll numbers and party drama, one issue remains dangerously under-discussed: voter suppression. It's not just a relic of history or a one-time crisis. It’s a deliberate, ongoing strategy that undermines democracy at its core.
Long lines, shuttered polling places, voter roll purges, ID barriers, disinformation campaigns — these aren’t glitches in the system. They are the system, designed to silence the voices most vital to change.
But here’s the truth: We don’t just resist suppression. We replace it. With voter empowerment.
We educate, not intimidate.
We activate, not obstruct.
We center every community, not push them to the margins.
Every shared resource, every mobilized volunteer, every ride to the polls is a strike against silence.
Your voice. Your vote. Our movement.
Let’s turn barriers into ballots.
Watch the documentary “Vigilantes, Inc.: America’s New Vote Suppression Hitmen,” which exposes voter suppression tactics by so-called vote-fraud hunters (MAGA vigilantes) who are alleged to have disrupted the voting rights of at least 850,000 legitimate voters.

Ohio has a history of purging voters for not voting — disproportionately targeting Black communities. Courts have struck down attempts as illegal voter suppression – but they won’t stop.

Data mismatches and exact-match laws can disproportionately impact voters with non-Anglo or culturally distinctive names.

Dēmos analyzed voter removal practices, safeguards, data accessibility, and transparency across Arizona, California, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, and Wisconsin.
Voter purges disproportionately affect Black and brown communities due to flawed policies and inaccurate data about felony convictions and citizenship status.
